Corporate Culture in Second Life
Since the goal of Second Life is to "have social interactions and do business," it was just a matter of time before the corporate world gets involved. If a company can use the virtual arena to market itself or its products, why not. Because Second Life involves so many people in its community, then this is the perfect place to market. That many people could not be reached in any other medium. Not everybody though is keen on corporate. But it is nice that users have a choice, like in real life, to simply not venture off into that area. They can continue to socialize and create they own worlds.

I agree. If there's a way for a company to make money by advertising, they'll take advantage of it. It was only a matter of time until companies realized SL was an excellent opportunity... especially at the rate it is growing at!
This most definitely happens. Companies have always flocked to whatever held a large population's interests. From books to radio to television to the Internet and finally virtual enviroments such as games.
World of Warcraft can be overrun at times from people advertising "power-leveling" or "in-game gold, characters, and gear".
So far it has been mostly underground, but the fact remains that comapanies will realize, sooner or later, the fertile ground that virtual worlds hold for advertising.
